This paper attempts to estimate large-scale GHG emissions from peatlands in the trans-border Neman River basin (NRB), by (I) providing a comprehensive overview of the extent and distribution of peatlands within the Neman River basin, (II) delivering new emission estimates based on current land use categories and more site-specific emission factors, (III) establishing a knowledge base to support the derivation of region-specific emission factors and (IV) identifying high-emission peatland land use areas by targeted for restoration to inform strategic mitigation planning.
