SOLO’s preliminary assessments on the knowledge gaps of Soil Mission objectives are now publicly available

Thursday, 17 April 2025

The Horizon Europe project Soils for Europe (SOLO) has now published its first round of preliminary assessments (roadmaps) on the knowledge gaps of Soil Mission objectives. The documents are available for public review on the SOLO platform after registration.

What are SOLO’s roadmaps?

One of the fundamental parts of SOLO is the project’s Think Tanks – one for each Soil Mission objective:

  • Reduce desertification
  • Conserve soil organic carbon stocks
  • Stop soil sealing and increase the re-use of urban soils
  • Reduce soil pollution and enhance restoration
  • Prevent erosion
  • Improve soil structure to enhance soil biodiversity
  • Reduce the EU's global footprint on soils
  • Improve soil literacy in society
  • Nature conservation of soil biodiversity

Each Think Tank will produce several roadmaps throughout the project's lifetime, working towards identifying the main knowledge gaps, bottlenecks and possible solutions for each Soil Mission objective.

How can you participate in the review process?

The roadmaps, available on the SOLO platform, are currently open for public review. Later this year, all documents will be assessed once again and updated by the project’s Think Tanks. After a quick registration on the SOLO platform, you can also participate in the process and leave your review.
