To coincide with International Women’s Day, the European Commission has launched the Women in Farming platform, a new initiative designed to empower women in farming and strengthen equal opportunities in this sector and rural communities. Announced in the Commission’s Vision for Agriculture and Food last year, it aims to help increase the number of women engaged in farming businesses, promote exchange and cooperation and foster the sharing of best practices. This launch is especially timely as the United Nations has declared 2026 the International Year of the Woman Farmer.

In 2026, the global community celebrates the International Year of the Woman Farmer, a United Nations initiative aimed at recognising the vital role women play in agriculture and food systems worldwide. Led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the initiative highlights the essential contributions of women to food production, rural livelihoods, and environmental stewardship, while also addressing the structural barriers they continue to face.

The Fonds de Dotation Roullier launched its second research call for proposals, “Call for proposals Soil Research 2026–29: towards better understanding and sustainable management of soils: ecosystem services and innovations”. The EU Directive on Soil Monitoring and Resilience, published on 26 November 2025, sets out a coherent and harmonised framework for monitoring and assessing soil health across all EU Member States, a key milestone for Europe’s environmental ambition. The legislation aims to achieve healthy soils across Europe by 2050 and contributes directly to the EU’s zero pollution ambition.
