The 5C's of soil security guiding realization of ecosystem services in line with the UN-SDGs

Scientific paper

In light of the 2030 deadline for UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this paper emphasises the pivotal role of soils, despite their absence in the current SDG framework. Advocating for operational methods aligned with SDGs, the paper integrates the soil security concept, urging stakeholders to embrace SDG-inspired management. A pragmatic research approach, referencing a Dutch case study and the National Soil Health Institute's model, highlights the assessment of five ecosystem services. At the farm level, the 5C's of soil security find practical application. Specific "Living Labs" examples serve as "Lighthouses", showcasing achieved sustainable development with soil health as a key factor.
