Following the success of previous Fire in the Earth System (fEs) Congresses in Valencia, Granada, and Cáceres (https://firecongress.eu), the fEs Congress 2025 will take place from June 2–5, 2025, in Setúbal, Portugal. We are also excited to announce the next edition will be held in November 2026 at Kruger National Park, South Africa.
The 2025 Congress will be organized by Célia Gouveia, Yannis Daliakopoulos, and Artemi Cerdà, and will feature three days of conferences, a one-day field visit, and six days of pre- and post-conference tours.
We are now accepting proposals for scientific and stakeholder-led sessions. If you are interested in organizing an activity such as scientific sessions, seminars, debates, open discussions, or training schools, please get in touch with us. Submit your proposals with a title, 2–4 organizers, a 200-word abstract, and 4–6 keynotes. Please contact Célia Gouveia (celia.gouveia@ipma.pt) or Artemi Cerdà (artemio.cerda@uv.es).
We welcome innovative ideas related to fire dynamics, fire’s effects on ecosystems (water, soil, atmosphere, biota), fire in ecosystem evolution, risks, hazards, forest land management, the use of fire in agriculture, fire history, and firefighting. The congress adopts a holistic approach, so topics on fire's role in socio-economic and spatial planning, fire prevention, public awareness, and management are also encouraged.
