The first annual event of the EU Mission ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’, the European Mission Soil Week 2023 took place on the 21-23 November 2023. It gathered over 300 in person participants and over 600 online participants. The event hosted 92 speakers in more than 20 different sessions.
The European Mission Soil Week is an annual event designed as a major European gathering that brings together the European soil community. This year’s edition was co-organised as a joint event between the European Commission, Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), the EU funded project PREPSOIL, and the Joint Research Centre - EU Soil Observatory (EUSO).
Researchers, policymakers, farmers, foresters, spatial planners, landowners and managers, businesses and organisations, as well as the general interested public, met to discuss the challenges for healthy soils. This event was an occasion to communicate and disseminate solutions based on the latest research results and innovation.
The conference was locally hosted by INIA-CSIC at the central facilities of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain, under the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council.
