Dublin will welcome the second edition of the European Carbon Farming Summit next March

Monday, 7 October 2024

The European Carbon Farming Summit is rapidly emerging as a leading meeting point for scientists, policymakers, economic actors, and interested members of the carbon farming and soil management communities. Following the resounding success of the first Summit in March 2024, the second edition will take place in Dublin, Ireland, from March 4 to 6, 2025. The Summit aims to address issues such as certification frameworks and how to build trust in them, the empowerment of farmers, the importance of monitoring, and how to transition from theory to action through a harmonised and context-specific approach.

Supported by the European Commission in its endeavour to adopt robust methodologies for carbon dioxide removals, the Summits are hosted by Project Credible and organized by EIT Climate-KIC in collaboration with SAE Innova, and the first edition gathered more than 600 participants, both in person in Valencia, Spain, and online. The event was highly dynamic, featuring six keynote speakers from top research, policy, and financial institutions, 11 breakout sessions, panel discussions, poster sessions, and lively discussions during the breaks.

The Summits revolve around three overarching issues: which farming practices are best suited to contribute to climate mitigation, what standards and certification mechanisms will safeguard the sustainability of claims, and how to monitor and report soil carbon fluxes. The answers to these and other questions collected during the Breakout Sessions are now part of an ongoing effort by Project Credible’s focus groups, which involve public consultations, assessment of methodologies, debates, and collaborations. The goal of this process is to develop a set of recommendations on the best strategies to implement successful carbon farming approaches, which will be discussed at the next Summit.

If you are interested in participating in high-level conversations to enable the development of credible carbon farming practices, with the aim of building the trust and momentum necessary to a shared vision and goal of upscaling carbon farming, please join us in Dublin!
