Consistent soil sampling across all our European experimental sites is crucial in our mission to understand soil organisms' role in delivering ecosystem functions. Standardised procedures enable us to identify regional trends, contributing to sustainable land management practices. The BIOservicES project has defined harmonised sampling methods, with extensive sampling planned for April-May 2024 and 2026. Pre-sampling steps include preparation, site selection, and adherence to defined procedures for storage and shipment, ensuring reliable data collection and analysis.

The Horizon Europe ECHO project has launched the call for Ambassadors for spreading awareness of soil health and to contribute to improving European soil health in local communities. The call will contribute to the aims of the project ECHO in promoting participatory processes at the local and regional level to engage citizens in protecting and restoring soils. This initiative focuses on skill development and knowledge enhancement regarding soil health.

The European Commission has launched a dedicated survey to collect feedback for the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025. Within this opportunity, the soil community is invited to contribute to co-designing the Mission Soil's Work Programme 2025. The feedback can be provided for 3 weeks, from 15 April to 6 May 2024 midday, CET.

Under the Work Programme 2024, the European Commission has published two calls for proposals, funding the creation and establishment of soil health living labs (SHLLs) to support the transition towards healthy soils by 2030. In light of these calls, land managers, researchers, public authorities, and businesses can attend the national engagement events organised by NATI00NS and receive further support.
