Consistent soil sampling across all our European experimental sites is crucial in our mission to understand soil organisms' role in delivering ecosystem functions. Standardised procedures enable us to identify regional trends, contributing to sustainable land management practices. The BIOservicES project has defined harmonised sampling methods, with extensive sampling planned for April-May 2024 and 2026. Pre-sampling steps include preparation, site selection, and adherence to defined procedures for storage and shipment, ensuring reliable data collection and analysis.

Under the Work Programme 2024, the European Commission has published two calls for proposals, funding the creation and establishment of soil health living labs (SHLLs) to support the transition towards healthy soils by 2030.
